TRAINER PROFILE
James J Parkinson, from Waterford, initially trained as a veterinary scientist in London before returning to his native Ireland where he bought Maddenstown Lodge in County Kildare and began a training career which was to last 50 years and produce 2577 winners. In the 1906 Irish Derby he trained Steinhager to finish second, Gaultier (7th) and Bells of Shandon (9th), but it was to be a further 11 years before he claimed his first Irish Derby in 1917 with First Flier, closely followed just 2 years later with a win by Loch Lomond. |
